As an opportunist, he switched sides several times in the wars for the Crown and some say was poisoned by his wife and William Peverell of Nottingham. {ref."The Complete Peerage," London: St. Catherine Press, Vol. 3, pp. 164-5.} Tradition is that he died by poison administered by his wife.
